Three reasons, and they apply anywhere, not just here. Fit, because a garment cut to your measurements does something no alteration can. Cloth, because you choose it yourself rather than accepting whatever the manufacturer used. And longevity, because a well-made suit that fits gets worn for years rather than replaced when it stops looking right.

Business suits are where this pays off fastest, since they get worn most. But the same is true of a jacket you will only wear a few times a year.

You may be wondering: should I get a suit tailored in Thailand?

If you ask around about whether it’s worth getting a suit made in Thailand, you’ll likely find responses that are polar opposites of each other. Many of your friends may have had excellent experiences, while one or two may have ended up pretty unhappy with the result of their suits.

The fact is, you’ll find both good and bad tailors in Thailand. You just have to find a good tailor shop to get your suit made. Even though a US $99 suit offer may seem incredibly attractive, it’s probably not worth your while. A custom-made suit by a good tailor doesn’t have to cost a thousand dollars, however. It’s certainly possible to get good suits for less. Naturally, your fabric choice will affect the price of the suit, and a full-canvas suit will cost more than a half-canvas suit from the same tailor. Likewise, a bespoke suit will cost more, but will probably still be very affordable relative to a comparable suit made in your home country – depending on where you call home.

Beyond that, if you want to get your initials monogrammed, surgeon cuffs, or a lapel buttonhole, you may have to budget more for your suit. At Mister Singh’s, we do not charge extra for them, however.
