A common question for those new to wearing suits
The difference is quite simple, actually. A two-piece suit simply comes with a suit jacket and a pair of trousers (or two pairs, if you choose to choose to get an extra one. Here’s why why it’s worth getting an extra pair). A three-piece suit comes with a suit jacket, a pair of trousers (again, optionally two), and a waistcoat (also called a vest, depending on where you’re from).
There are differences in where you might wear a two-piece suit and a three-piece suit as well. This is because a three-piece suit is considered bolder and more formal. It might not necessarily be appropriate for a job interview. On the other hand, if you want to wear a linen suit to a somewhat conservative work environment, a three-piece suit might be a little more acceptable because it comes off as more formal. Of course, these things are not set in stone and depend a lot on the work environment, suit pattern, and even the interviewer and seniority level of the job you’re seeking (in the case of the job interview).
If it’s your first time buying a suit, however, you probably want to go with a single-breasted two-piece suit. A navy or grey one at that. These are the essential suits that every man should have in his wardrobe. Of course, it’s not like you can’t wear a three-piece suit without the waistcoat, however. Three-piece suits are classy – they’re elegant. There’s no harm in getting a three-piece suit and wearing it sans waistcoat from time to time, as long as it fits right. You can thus wear just the suit jacket and trousers on most occasions and add the waistcoat for a more elegant look when you want to.
If you’re looking to get a new suit, have you considered getting it custom-tailored? It may sound like an expensive option, but this is not necessarily the case, and certainly not at Mister Singh’s Fashion Gallery. We’re a Thailand-based custom tailor and have decades of experience in producing high-quality suits at affordable prices. This way, not only will the suit be made to fit you, but you also get to customize it to suit your needs and personal tastes – as to better reflect your individuality.
We know that not everybody’s got experience in getting clothes custom-tailored, so don’t worry. We’ll guide you through the entire process. It’s possible to order online, and we simply ask that you send us a well-fitting garment so that we can get your measurements, as part of this process. Said garment will be promptly returned to you along with your new 2-piece or 3-piece suit – whichever you decide to get.
We also visit a number of major cities in South East Asia, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Canada, every year as part of our travelling tailor service. In each city, we host trunk shows where you can come in to get measured and work with our tailors to design your new suit(s) and other custom-tailored clothing.
