Maybe you’ve been recommended a Phuket tailor by a friend or family member, or you’re just curious about why Phuket has so many tailor shops.

Regardless, there is a reason why Phuket, like other major cities in Thailand, has so many tailor shops. In many places, you may have to spend hundreds of dollars to get a decent off-the-peg suit. In Phuket, you can get a high-quality suit custom-made to fit you – and from a fabric of your choice – for a similar price. Of course, the more expensive the fabric, the more expensive the suit – but the suits on offer from Phuket tailors are nonetheless affordable.

Customising your suit

The other major benefit, of course, is that you get to customise the suit to match your style. You decide whether you want surgeon cuffs. You decide whether you want a single vent in the back of your suit jacket; double vents; or no vent at all, as uncommon as that may be. Likewise, you decide whether you want kissing or non-kissing buttons. You’re the designer here. Of course, if it’s your first time buying a suit – or if you’re simply unsure about anything – you can just ask your tailor. They’re not only here to measure you up and cut your suit; they’re also here to advise you. It is important, however, to choose a reliable tailor.

Besides, if your tailor has your measurements on file, you’re also able to order additional garments and have them sent over to you. This means you’ll be able to get the same high-quality garments, custom-made to fit you, at affordable prices, wherever you are in the world. One of the most recognised names in the Phuket tailoring industry – Mister Singh’s – also offers travelling tailor services, so if your measurements change, you can simply book an appointment with us when we’re visiting your city to get more clothes, and/or to get your existing clothes altered.

The cost

You may be curious at this point about Phuket tailor prices – or specifically, ‘just how much is a suit in Phuket?’. The fact is that prices can vary significantly between different tailor shops, and even once you have identified a suitable tailor shop for your suits, factors such as fabric, lining, construction, buttons, and embroidery, may impact the cost of your suit. If you already have an idea in mind about what you’re looking for in your suit, then you’re welcome to let us know and we can give you an estimate. In other cases, we do encourage you to get in touch and we can work with you to advise on options and how they can impact pricing.

How to choose a suit shop in Patong

There are a great many tailors in Patong and they are not the same. A few things worth doing before you commit.

Look at the fabric, not the shopfront. Ask to see and feel what you would actually be buying, at the price you would be paying, rather than the best roll in the shop.

Ask how many fittings you get, and whether they fit within your dates. A shop that promises a suit overnight is telling you something about how it will be made.

Ask what happens if it is not right. A straight answer here tells you more than anything else in the conversation.

Give yourself enough time. Three to four days is comfortable. Anything less is possible but you are removing the margin for getting it right. Fittings are an important part of the process.
